Mr. Weissman is a 1983 graduate from the State University of New York at Stony Brook with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, and a 1987 graduate of Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad College of Law (formerly Nova Law School).  Mr. Weissman joined the Firm in 2003, where he concentrates his practice in the areas of providing police and law enforcement legal representation, governmental law, and litigation.  Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Weissman was an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida assigned to the police department as the police legal advisor from January 2011 through June 2023. Prior to his employment with the City of Fort Lauderdale, Mr. Weissman served as an Assistant State Attorney in the Seventeenth Judicial Circuit from 1987 through 1992 and from 1994 through 2011.

As an Assistant State Attorney, Mr. Weissman was lead counsel in over 200 jury trials ranging from third degree felonies to capital homicides.  During his 22-year tenure, he handled the prosecution of capital homicides, sex crimes, child abuse and neglect, career criminals, public corruption, gang related crimes, violent crimes, and property crimes.  After the State Attorney’s Office, Mr. Weissman spent twelve years as an assistant city attorney with the City of Fort Lauderdale assigned to the police department as their police legal advisor.  During his employment with Fort Lauderdale, Mr. Weissman handled all police-related matters for the City.

As an Assistant City Attorney, Mr. Weissman performed the following legal services:  prosecution of state forfeiture actions; policy review and drafting; legal training to police department personnel regarding Fourth Amendment, Fifth Amendment, Sixth Amendment, and Fourteenth Amendment; drafting and reviewing law enforcement memorandums of understanding; drafting and reviewing procurement contracts; reviewing grant applications; providing counsel to the Chief of Police regarding matters related to law enforcement operations and management; assist patrol officers and detectives with case preparation for presentation to prosecuting authorities; and providing counsel to internal affairs personnel regarding the applications of the Police Officer Bill of Rights.  Additionally, Mr. Weissman performed non-police-related responsibilities include: the drafting of municipal ordinances and resolutions and providing counsel on Florida’s public records laws and the federal Freedom of Information Act.
